Magazine Luiza seeks to build mutually beneficial partnerships with suppliers, based on ethical and transparent conduct in business and to respect the environmental laws and human rights.

Environmental impact is managed together with enacting the culture of appreciation of environment and is promoted and publicized by implementing policies and processes to ensure compliance with the environmental legislation and to promote a culture of sustainable management of operations.

Solid waste management and recycling: implementing a program that meets the National Solid Waste Policy, by creating an innovative model in the management of recyclable waste. Carbon emissions, energy efficiency and the responsible use of natural resources: establishing a methodology to manage carbon emissions to formulate objectives and targets, as well as to raise awareness among employees about the importance of environmental issues.

Our efforts are directed towards preventing pollution, eliminating deviations from set process’, reducing waste, controlling and managing waste through the continuous improvement of our actions, where the objective is always to achieve a reduction and conservation of resources and energy.

The results of environmental projects are reported annually in the Annual Sustainability Report.

Magazine Luiza has a target of investing 100% of the funds from tax incentives, such as Rouanet Law, PROAC - Cultural Incentive Program, PIE - Sport Incentive Program, Federal Law to Encourage Sport and the Audiovisual Law. The company supports cultural events and sports initiatives aimed at expanding and consolidating art and sport.

Projects are selected by the Sustainability Department through detailed analysis enabling Board to define which projects will receive funding.

Main criteria used to select projects is by identifying company's values and culture, location of community, as to expand its scope so that more people can benefit from these initiatives, pursuing children development and teenagers in vulnerable situations.

Social investments made by Magazine Luiza are aimed at four areas: culture, education, health and sports:

  • Culture – cultural democratization by supporting projects that give children, teenagers and disabled more access to the cultural production for all areas of the arts – Visual Arts, performing arts, film and video, literature and music.
  • Education - improving the quality of education through projects that complement and strengthen the role of the school, contributing to the expansion of possibilities for the development of participants in the projects supported.
  • Health - projects for children and adolescents who contribute to the reduction of child mortality.
  • Sports – to include children and teenagers through sporting activities, strengthening leadership skills and teamwork, as well as school and the family values.
